When is the Great Human Race?

8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013.

Where do the funds you raise go?

All of the funds raised through the race directly benefit World Relief Durham’s refugee resettlement program. Refugee resettlement is a multifaceted program that provides direct relief and development for refugees to ultimately become self-sufficient individuals in the U.S.

ESL CLASSES: Refugees are taught English through World Relief Durham and outside resources.

HOUSING: Refugees receive paid rent during the first 90 days within the U.S. to help get them on their feet. After, they are responsible for paying and providing their housing payments. Also, upon a refugee arrival, World Relief Durham picks them up from the airport and brings them to their apartment, which is required to be furnished with the basics.

-pot of funds, homelessness prevention

JOB TRAINING: Living in the U.S. and being self-sufficient requires employment. World Relief Durham provides classes for refugees to learn about interviewing, build resumes and complete applications.

-to receive comprehensive services and rent assistance, clients must demonstrate to a commitment to find employment. Participation in job training classes and employment services ensures clients are actively gaining employable skills and applying for jobs.

GROCERIES: Refugees come to their apartment for the first time to a stocked pantry to ease their transition and accommodate them after a long journey.

All refugees receive 90 days of funded World Relief Durham services. They are able to continue to use our services for up to 180 days, however, those remaining days are not funded.
