Triangle Area Parenting Support (TAPS) mission is to connect, inform, and empower new parents for their parenting journey! We do this through research-based, inclusive, nonjudgmental support programs that build on parents’ strengths to prepare them for whatever they may encounter during their parenting journey.
What does this look like in action? Using geo-technology, TAPS places parents in local, in-person, peer support groups with other new parents. Last year over 100 parents became TAPS group members!
These groups are so much more than just a play date. Over 10 weeks, TAPS groups follow the Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS) curriculum to build a strong foundation of
social support, resilience, and competence in parents during their transition to parenthood.
TAPS group meetings include time for parents to share their experiences, learn developmental games to play with their child, and discuss a topic related to the adventure of parenting. Meetings also include break time for informal socializing and connecting with other parents. During their group, TAPS parents have the chance to both share information with each other and to hear from experts on topics that matter! Group discussions are led by a trained facilitator and parents are encouraged to continue providing support for each other by continuing to gather for as long as they choose.
Parents who participate in TAPS groups report experiencing less isolation, having greater knowledge of their child’s development, and feeling more confident and competent in their parenting skills after 10 weeks. Many TAPS groups continue to gather for social support, educational experiences, and fun with their whole families!
We are 100% volunteer run and receive no government or grant funding -- so we rely on the generosity of donors like you to be able to serve new parents in our region!

TAPS is looking for walkers, runners, fundraisers, donors, and volunteers to join our team at the Triangle Nonprofit &Volunteer Center’s Great Human Race on Saturday March 24
th 2018. To quote Dr. Suess, “A person’s a person, no matter how small.” No matter what your ability is – TAPS wants you to join us! Bring your babies, your friends, your partners, and your parents to be a part of our Stroller striding parenting posse! This 5K Run and community walk is a great way to reconnect with your TAPS group, explore the beautiful Forest Hills neighborhood in Durham, and raise funds and awareness for TAPS. Help us reach our big goal of $5,000!
