Soul Food for Your Baby  (SFYB) is excited to participate in the Great Human Race to raise funds for breastfeeding in the African American community! Please help us reach our goal of raising $750 on Saturday, March 23^rd!
 
We know that breast milk is the best milk for developing infants. Yet fewer African American mothers breastfeed compared to other groups. This means many benefits are missed and health risks such as obesity, diabetes, asthma, and infant death are increased for African American children.
 
Fueled by the desire to turn the disparity and see better health outcomes in African American children, SFYB has been working to revive breastfeeding in South Los Angeles through community outreach and education, breastfeeding classes, and support groups.
 
Last year SFYB engaged mothers and advocates with ongoing social media activities, including a video collage of mothers during Black Maternal Health week; a panel discussion on Black Maternal Health; and week of activities during Black Breastfeeding Week, including a breastfeeding celebration in Compton and Facebook Live event in conjunction with community partners. We also interacted with advocates during a poster presentation at the Breastfeeding Summit in Los Angeles in the fall.

Interim Executive Director Elizabeth Woods will walk with her family for Soul Food for Your Baby as part of the 5K walk in Durham, NC. Your donation will support core operations that will help us with community outreach and tangible breastfeeding support in South Los Angeles!
