My name is Ansar Footman, Founder of
Richdad Richerdad Inc., a 501C3 organization that has two specific programs:
-
Providing childcare assistance for single fathers, and
-
Providing support to returning citizens who have been released from incarceration.
As a widower with two children and a justice involved citizen, I understand the needs of other men facing challenges similar to the ones I have faced. And having successfully navigated the process, I want to help others do the same.
I've been a single father since my two boys were 3 and 5 years old when my wife died. They are now 10 and 8. It’s been tough fulfilling my responsibilities as an entrepreneur and caring for them as well. Finding trustworthy childcare when needed has been one of my most daunting challenges. Through my organization’s
Childcare Assistance Program, we offer alternative childcare options to single fathers, such as a drop-in service on an ‘as-needed’ needed basis as well as peer support.
I am also a justice involved citizen, and I realize how critically important it is to do whatever is necessary to beat the odds of recidivism. Thanks to the training and education I gained during my incarceration, along with my own commitment, I was able to make a successful transition to becoming a productive member of society. Today, I’m a thriving licensed General Contractor, one of the few licensed General Contractors in my city.
It wasn’t easy, and there were challenges to overcome, but I somehow had the courage and resolve to make the right decisions at the right time.
The odds are grim for others without support or personal determination. Approximately 725,000 inmates are released from prisons throughout the United States every year. Justice-involved citizens encounter staggering challenges when they attempt to re-integrate into society.
Some studies suggest that up to 75% return to prison within three years (although that figure varies from state to state).
Because returning to a life of crime is not an option, our goal is to ensure that they have the skills and support they need to make a successful transition to a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities.
I have successfully coordinated a network of men like myself who are now thriving small business owners and who are willing to take a chance on justice-involved citizens by hiring them. But first, I need to train and prepare them to be responsible employees, contributing members of society, and eventually business owners themselves.
In order to do that, I need your help!
We are seeking to create a designated childcare area/activity quarters, classroom, and vocational setting. Your donation will go directly to funding the operations and programs of
Richdad Richerdad, Inc.! My organizational plan is sound; my programs are defined; and my communications and outreach strategies are in place.
