I am a fundraiser for
Chapel Hill-Carrboro Human Rights Center Inc.
The Chapel Hill & Carrboro Human Rights Center is a non-profit social justice organization located in Abbey Court, a low-income housing complex located on the outskirts of the Chapel Hill/Carrboro community with a largely immigrant population. The Human Rights Center hosts other nonprofits that serve the Abbey Court community, including TABLE, Inc. (hunger program that provides meals for elementary school children), as well as tutoring and activity programs coordinated with Mary Scroggs Elementary School. The HRC also works closely with Campus Y groups such as Technology Without Borders, which provides equitable access to computers and information to residents; LINC (Linking Immigrants to New Communities) which helps ease the transition of recent immigrants to North Carolina, specifically through afterschool programming with young students; and Advocates for Human Rights, which has invested in a handbag sowing venture started by Burmese refugees.
