Dear friends and neighbors,

I appreciate the work of the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association the most when I am walking or biking the trail along the creek between Markham Avenue and Trinity Avenue on my way to the Durham Farmer’s Market.  

It is so refreshing to walk along this little bit of nature - the Pearl Mill Preserve - in the middle of such a densely urban area.  The Pearl Mill Preserve is one of 345 acres in Durham protected by ECWA.

Thanks to contributions from the Trinity Park Neighborhood Association there is a lovely seating area and an information kiosk between Markham and Green Street.  ECWA’s staff and its many volunteers have identified native plants, removed exotic, invasive plant growth, and collected and removed litter.  They are also the ones who maintain those poop-bag dispensers for the many dog walkers.
