As a volunteer teacher of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and member of the Board of Directors , I am able to witness the great impact that the DLC is making in the Durham Community.  The mission of the Durham Literacy Center (DLC) is to empower Durham County residents who want to enrich their lives by improving their literacy skills.

At the DLC, every dollar counts:

  • $100 will buy instructional materials for one ESOL class
  • $50 will buy instructional materials for one Adult Literacy student and tutor pair
  • $25 will buy training materials for one volunteer tutor
  • $20 will buy a 1-month bus pass for one student
  • $10 will buy school supplies for one adult student.

On March 28, The Durham Literacy Center (DLC) and its Race To Read! team will participate in the Great Human Race to raise funds to support our mission. Every year the Durham Literacy Center provides services to over 600 students, giving them skills and confidence to take control of their future.
