Bridges Pointe is a community based organization focused on social support, advocacy, and sickle cell education. Bridges is the local chapter of the SCDAA- Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.

General Information
Five things you need to know about Sickle Cell:
1. One in every ten African Americans has sickle cell trait.
2. Sickle Cell trait is not a disease.
3. Sicle Cell trait is the carrier state- a person with trait can pass it on to their children.
4. Both trait and disease are detected by the same simple blood test- hemoglobin electrophoresis.
5. Persons with trait need to request genetic counseling to understand what it means to for them and other family members.
