Theater as a tool for self expression, understanding literature and history, and community building
This year at AAD, we’ve started a Wednesday lunch hour theater group exploring playwright August Wilson’s Century Cycle – a group of ten plays that trace the changes in the life of Pittsburgh’s African American community during the 20th century.
Students selected one play from the cycle and are working to develop it to a staged reading performance. We got a small grant from Duke University to begin this project but need additional financing to hire a director, support the staging, and take participating students to local theater events for inspiration and ideas. We would also like to document our process and begin preparing for our next production. Help AAD’s upstart creative class take center stage by supporting the Drama Queens.
For every donation the Drama Queens receive, Nick will read and record a Shakespearean monologue. While jogging: http://aaddramaqueens.tumblr.com/
