I am a fundraiser for
A Ban Against Neglect, Inc.
Hello! Leyla and Vicky here, and we’re Team Alice!
Alice is the Sewing Teacher in Ghana. This means she teaches sewing skills to the Junior girls, which they use to make the pencil cases we sell to Thistle Farms as well as other products. These skills set the foundation for dressmaking and other sewing apprenticeships they receive Senior year, which help them find work after graduation. Despite her success Alice is also a self-taught seamstress, helping her serve as a role model to the girls of what can be accomplished with work and dedication.
We’re running for Alice because she is essential to the development of our girls and their ability to sustain themselves after they leave the ABAN program.
“I decided to join ABAN this past semester because I believe in what they do. All the work and effort that goes into the organization has a direct impact on the world and renders it a better place. What’s more is that the impact we make is something we can all see and wrap our heads around. By fundraising $1500, we are fully supporting Alice – the head seamstress at ABAN – for an entire year by funding her salary, lodging, and healthcare costs. Additionally, she teaches our Ghanian girls sewing skills to better their futures. This is really a gift that keeps on giving.”
