Fundraising in Memory of IAR's founder Leslie Mann

This year Marc and I are participating in the Great Human Race in memory of the founder of Independent Animal Rescue, Leslie Mann. In 1994 this remarkable, determined young woman decided to find a way to help the hundreds of local stray, abandoned, and abused cats and dogs. She set high goals of compassion and commitment, and her vision made a lot of sense. So before long, a dozen volunteers joined her.

A decade later, Leslie told me she was moving back to her hometown in Florida. My heart sunk. What would IAR do? More to the point, what would be done for our local animals? She was unfazed because she knew she had planted deep roots.

She was right. Now, nearly a quarter century later, the nonprofit Independent Animal Rescue continues to save over 1,000 lives annually, through an extensive volunteer network and donations. This year the reward I’ll be giving to those donating $25 or more will be a handmade memorial booklet about the indomitable Leslie Mann. There will be no more than 100 signed and numbered copies made. Thank you for helping to continue the work of this remarkable individual.
